Brackets

Pickleball Champions Series understands that many of our entrants travel great distances, commit a good portion of their weekend and spends their hard earned money to participate in a PCS - Cup Tournament.    The possibility of 3 games and out does not sit well with PCS.  This is why we choose the Round Robin format first... if at all possible.

We understand when a tournament is a qualifying regional or Nationals single or double elimination formatted tournament... but not for an open enrollment tournament.  For this reason, our goal is to give all players the maximum amount of games.

Round Robin:  Teams will play all teams in their division or pool.

Depending on the total number of teams in a division, there may or may not be a playoff after the Round Robin is completed.  For example:  If a division has 12 teams, most likely that division will only compete in a Round Robin (each team would play 11 games).  Criteria would be used to determine the medal winners.

However, if the division had only 8 teams, most likely that that division would play a Round Robin (each team would play 7 games), with the top 4 teams (based on criteria) advancing to a single or double elimination playoff.

PCS Round Robin Criteria:  Determining factors to medal winners or advancing to a playoff.

1.)  Undefeated Team or Singles Player

Equals Champion.

2.)  Best Record

An 8-1 Team is placed higher than the 7-2 Team, even if the 7-2 Team beat the 8-1 Team.

3.)  Head to Head record for two Teams with the same record

Having only two Teams with an 8-1 record, then the criteria is which Team won in their Head to Head game.

4.)  Head to Head record 3 Teams with the same record - Triple-headed Monster

“Triple-headed Monster” is when Team A beats Team B, and Team B beats Team C, and Team C beats Team A, and they all have the same record.

A.) First criteria.  Is most Points.  If Team A has 100 Points, Teams B has 99 Points and Team C has 98 points.  Team A is Champion, Team B is Silver and Team C is Bronze.

However, if Teams B and C both scored the same amount of points (99), we will move to extra criteria.

B.) Second criteria.  The Silver and Bronze will be determined by their head to head matchup. If Team B beat Team C, then Team A will finish as Champion, Team B gets Silver and Team C gets Bronze.

C.) Third criteria.  If needed, is the least amount of points given up.  If Team A and Team B’s only loss was a score of 11-5, but Team C loss was 11-2, then Team C is pulled into the lowest placing.  The remaining two Teams will be placed by their head to head games.  If Team A beat Team B in their game, then Team A finishes as Champion and Team B as the Silver and Team C (who gave up the most points), would win the Bronze.

D.)  Fifth criteria. If in the unlikely event, we still have a tie in criteria, the tournament director will award a tie to all of the teams in the “Triple-headed Monster”.

5.)  Entire Bracket Ends With The Same Record

If we have an 8 Team bracket that all 8 teams end up with a 4-4 record, we will use the above criteria, until we have teams either with higher criteria, or two teams with the same criteria, in which we would refer to the head to head game.
